Western’s Intercollegiate Athletics Program will host its annual Varsity Athletic Awards Banquet, Wednesday April 7 at the London Convention Centre.  The event is open to all varsity student-athletes from 36 varsity men and women sport teams.  Tickets must be ordered in advance and are  only available to varsity student-athletes and staff. 

The wrestling program award recipients are:

Women’s Co-MVP’s:  Brianne Barry & Larissa D’Alleva

Men’s MVP (George Oliphant Trophy):  Eric Jacobson

Most Dedicated & Spirit Award (Leyshon Trophy):  Ben Spitzke

London-Western brought home two National Team titles from the Junior & Senior National Wrestling Championships, March 26-28, 2010 in Fredericton.  Included were 11 National medals and 3 berths to the World Junior Championships in Budapest, HUN, for the Jr women individual gold medallists. 

It was the first time that a Junior National Women’s team title has been won, while London-Western defended its Junior Greco Roman title won in 2009.

The Junior Women’s team comprised of Ramona Balfour, Brianne Barry, Olivia Gunnell, Sara Pattenaude, Larissa D’Alleva and Christine Schmidt.  The Junior Greco Roman team comprised of, Steven Takahashi, Misha Steen, Josh Proctor, Eric Jacobson, Scott Wheatley, and Shawn Wheatley. 

Jenn Nguyen and Liz Sera placed 4th and 5th respectively in the 51 and 59 kg Senior Women’s weight divisions.

Congratulations on a successful National Championships!

Katie Patroch will compete at the Women’s World Cup, March 27, 28 in Nan Jing City, China. Katie placed 2nd at the same meet last year and is currently ranked #1 in Canada at 59 kg. The Westminster S.S. teacher placed 5th in the World Championships in September, 2009.

The 8 qualified countries participating are: 1. Azerbaijan 2. Japan 3. Canada 4. Ukraine 5. Russia 6. United States of America 7. Mongolia 8. China
